Spotlight: Billie Marten (13/11/15)

Billie Marten is a young and incredibly talented singer - songwriter. 2014 saw a successful release for 16-year old Billie, when her EP 'Ribbon' received plays across Radio 1 (Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe, Fearne Cotton), 6Music, BBC Radio 2, XFM and Amazing Radio. Now she's back with her debut EP for Chess Club Records, 'As Long As', the tracks from this release were written over the past year, whilst Billie studied for her GCSE's, alongside travelling to London from her home in Ripon, North Yorkshire for meetings and live shows...

'As Long As EP' Review:
The EP starts with 'Roots', and introduces the listener to Billie's music perfectly, summarising her sound with the beautiful guitar and piano melody accompanying each other layered up with her stunning vocals creating subtle harmonies. 'Cursive' is an imagery filled track with beautifully written lyrics, a steady beat forcing you to sway to the song and piano that picks up the emotive tone of the track. 'Bird' is the single from the EP and again holds an emotive narrative, with stunning piano and strings, it's another fantastic lead single from Billie and shows her talent as an all round singer-songwriter. 'As Long As' closes the release, another beautiful song with moments of wonderful guitar to get stuck in your head.
Each track on this EP is wonderful in its own way, but all show that Billie has her own unique sound and I think it's one that's going to get her far in the future. Already looking forward to her next release!
