Spotlight: Lyla Foy (23/10/15)

Lyla Foy is a wonderfully gifted singer-songwriter from London, England. She has spent a lot of time in the last year touring throughout Europe and America; having toured with the likes of The National and Sharon Van Etten, along with playing festivals including Glastonbury and End of the Road, she has also just played a string of shows in the USA. Lyla released her self-produced debut album 'Mirrors The Sky' under her own name, which received support from the likes of Pitchfork and 6Music's Steve Lamacq. Her EP 'UMi' is the first new material released since Spring 2014 and she is currently working on her second album.

'UMi EP' Review:
This EP is wonderful from start to finish 'Beginning It All Again' starts the EP off in a steady and perfectly layered track, with beautiful vocals and lyrics creating vivid imagery. 'Glow In The Dark' has a stunning intro, and the guitars and vocals help the track grow into a steady and brilliantly layered track.
'River' is a haunting track and probably one of my favourites from the EP, reminding me of the likes of Lykke Li. Following with a similar tone is 'Right To Be', definitely a track to relax to, with a mellow feel and a steady rhythm flowing throughout. 'Tiger' is reminiscent of Kate Bush, and is a fantastic creative soundscape, I love it! The EP closes with 'He Is Lost' which would fit perfectly on a sleep playlist. I'm a big fan of this EP and am already looking forward to her second album...
