Spotlight: Matt Wills (19/12/16)

Matt Wills is a 22 year old singer/songwriter, he sharpened his lyrical barbs in freestyle rap battles a teenager, and cotes the likes of Ben Howard, The 1975, Jamie T and The Kooks as his main influences. He's toured alongside Halsey at Koko and O2, and Alessia Cara at Dingwalls. His previous release 'The Hurricane EP' featured production from Daktyl, guest vocals from Devlin and was championed by Skrillex. Following on from the release of BBC Introducing premiered track 'Set Your Free', Matt now releases the 'Set You Free EP'.

'Set You Free' EP Review:
The EP opens with the title track 'Set You Free' and sets the tone for the rest of the release. Powerful vocals and a soul filled pop-esque soundscape. 'Always' follows on with a stuttered sound and a chorus reminiscent of Ed Sheeran, Matt's vocals bring his lyrics to life yet again and brings a layer of honesty and emotion. Acoustic track 'Hold On' is a smooth soul filled track, with simple guitar backing stunning layered vocals, and demo track 'Secrets' carries on that vibe. Closing with a beautiful acoustic version of title track 'Set You Free', it offers another side to the song. This EP is a fantastic release that shows Matt's music is just as brilliant stripped back. Enjoy!
